Bogong research

Bogong is driven by evidence-based research.

We have received national recognition of our work in the area, including the National Institute of Clinical Studies Evidence into Action prize at the 2007 GPET Convention.

UnderStanding the future needs of GP procedural practice

A research report released by Bogong in August 2009 revealed substantial levels of demand for GP procedural medicine in small rural and regional communities.

GP proceduralists; the hidden heart of rural and regional health in Australia also highlighted a gradual but sustained decline in the volume and complexity of all categories of procedural practice, particularly as the workforce of GP proceduralists age and retire.

The report contained a key finding.

Although GP proceduralists are vital to the rural health care system, they are effectively ‘hidden’ as they are not recognized or counted as a distinct cohort.

Bogong presented the findings of the Hidden Heart report at the national GPET conference in September and at ‘GP 09’ in Perth. We will continue to share the results of this study with our colleagues in the health sector to assist with planning and development of primary health care.   CLICK HERE for more information about this research project and key findings.
