Our Region

The Bogong region covers some of the most spectacular and diverse countryside in Australia.

The region extends from mountain cattlemen terrain in the Upper Murray to the fruit bowl of Victoria in the Goulburn Valley. Recreation opportunities abound and the snowfields are a prominent and unique feature.

Major centres include Albury, Wodonga, Wangaratta, Benalla, Yarrawonga and Shepparton. Most of the region is in easy reach of Melbourne, with good transport links along the dual-lane Hume Freeway and by rail and air.

There are 36 high quality GP teaching practices accredited with the Bogong GP training program. The region has four major district hospitals (Shepparton, Wangaratta, Wodonga and Albury) and three divisions of general practice.

A great GP lifestyle

Our name derives from Victoria's highest peak, Mt Bogong. The Victorian Alps offer winter snow sports or hiking and mountain bike riding in summer. Water sports enthusiasts are well served by several popular lakes such as Eildon, Hume and Mulwala, the Murray and other rivers.

Victoria's premier wine growing areas are within the Bogong region, including the famous Rutherglen vineyards, Brown Brothers and the distinctive cool climate wines of the Alpine Valleys.

Our region is family friendly, with good schools, universities and TAFE colleges. Our larger regional centres provide quality shopping, dining and professional services.
